Custom Luxury Rigid Boxes: Premium Packaging Designed for Presentation & Protection

Your packaging is the first thing a customer touches, so it sets the tone for everything inside. Custom luxury rigid boxes give a premium product a firm, structured case that feels as good as it looks. We make each box to your size, style and finish, so your product sits securely and looks great on arrival.

At Custom Printed Paper, we supply custom rigid packaging for UK businesses. You choose the structure, printing, finish and insert. We then guide you through proofing, sampling and production.

What Are Custom Luxury Rigid Boxes?

Custom luxury rigid boxes are pre-formed premium boxes made from thick board and covered with a printed or decorative paper wrap. You set their exact dimensions. The firm structure protects the product, while the wrap, finish and insert create a polished first impression.

Unlike a folding carton, a rigid box does not arrive flat. The factory builds and glues it, so it keeps its shape from the first use. Many buyers also know this style as a rigid setup box or a luxury setup box. Both names describe the same type of premium rigid packaging. For other builds, see our custom rigid boxes page.

    Why Choose Luxury Rigid Packaging?

Premium rigid boxes suit products where the box is part of the purchase. It protects the product and shapes how customers feel about it. Here is what you gain:

    •     Structure: The thick board gives the box a firm shape that holds up during handling and storage.
    •     Presentation: The printed wrap and finishes give the box a high-end look and feel.
    •     Protection: A fitted insert keeps the product from moving inside the box.
    •     Gifting: The box looks right as a gift without extra wrapping.
    •     Reuse: Customers often keep a sturdy box for storage, which extends its life.

A rigid box will not suit every product, though. For example, a folding carton may work better if you ship large volumes of light items. Storage space matters too. We will tell you so at the quote stage.

    Luxury Rigid Box Styles

Each style of custom luxury rigid boxes opens differently. Use the notes below to match the style to your product.

Magnetic rigid boxes. A hidden magnet holds the lid shut and gives a clean, quiet close. They suit jewellery, skincare sets and gifts, where the opening moment matters. However, magnets add cost, so check that the effect is worth it for your product. Our custom magnetic boxes page covers this style in more detail.

Lid and base boxes. This is the classic two-piece design, where the lid lifts straight off the base. It suits gift sets, apparel and corporate gifts. Because the lid is a separate piece, the fit matters. A snug fit feels premium, while a loose one feels cheap.

Drawer boxes. A tray slides out of an outer sleeve and reveals the product slowly. This style works well for watches, candles and small gift sets. It needs precise sizing, so that the tray moves smoothly without falling out.

Book-style boxes. The lid hinges on one side and opens like a book. It shows off a single product or a small set, such as a perfume or a piece of jewellery. The hinge side also gives you a clean surface for a logo, so it suits simple branding well.

Shoulder-neck boxes. The base has a raised inner neck, and the lid sits over it. Because of the raised neck, the box has a layered edge and a heavier feel. It suits premium cosmetics and fragrance packaging.

Collapsible rigid boxes. These fold flat for storage and shipping, then open into a rigid box. They suit businesses with limited storage space. Collapsible designs work best for lighter products. Therefore, share your product weight with us when you ask for advice.

Which Rigid Box Style Should You Choose?

    Your requirement Recommended style
    A premium reveal Magnetic closure
    Classic presentation Lid and base
    A sliding, interactive opening Drawer
    A book-like opening Book-style
    A layered, high-end edge Shoulder-neck
    Space-saving storage Collapsible

    Materials and Board Construction

Most greyboard rigid boxes start with a thick sheet of greyboard, also called chipboard. We cut the board to size and then cover it with a printed paper wrap. Next, we shape and glue the corners and line the inside to finish the box.

For the wrap, you can choose coated art paper, textured paper or a specialty paper. A textured paper adds feel without an extra finishing step. Also, board thickness depends on the box size and the weight of the product. Because of this, we set the thickness for each project instead of using one standard for every order. That is how rigid board packaging stays strong without becoming bulky.

    Premium Printing and Finishing Options

We print in CMYK, and Pantone matching is available for brand colours that need an exact shade. Finishes then add touch and shine, so choose them with care. Here is when each one makes sense:

    •     Foil stamping: Best for a logo or a small detail. Metallic foil stands out most when you use it sparingly.
    •     Embossing and debossing: These raise or press a design into the surface, so they work well for logos on plain paper.
    •     Soft-touch lamination: This gives a velvety matte feel. It suits soft touch rigid boxes that customers handle gently, such as cosmetic packaging.
    •     Spot UV: A gloss coating on chosen areas, so it adds contrast on a matte box.
    •     Matte or gloss lamination: Matte looks calm and modern, while gloss makes colours look brighter.

In most cases, two finishes done well look better than five competing for attention. For example, a foil logo on a soft-touch box is a reliable pairing.

Custom Inserts for Luxury Rigid Boxes

An insert holds the product in place inside custom luxury rigid boxes and also shows it off. Therefore, we choose the insert by the product’s size, weight and how fragile it is. These are the main options:

    •     EVA foam: A firm, cut-to-shape insert for perfume bottles, devices and heavier items.
    •     Foam: A softer cushion, so it suits delicate products.
    •     Paperboard or cardboard: A paper-based option that works for lighter items, dividers and gift sets.
    •     Compartments: Separate sections for sets with several items.
    •     Fabric-style lining: A soft surface for jewellery and watches, where available.

We cut each insert to fit your product, so the item stays still in transit. Our custom packaging inserts page shows more of the options.

Which Products Suit Luxury Rigid Boxes?

Different products need different pairings of custom luxury rigid boxes and inserts. These examples show how it works in practice:

    •     Jewellery: A compact magnetic or book-style box with a fitted insert. See our custom jewellery boxes.
    •     Watches: A drawer or lid and base box with a cushioned insert.
    •     Cosmetics and skincare: A shoulder-neck or magnetic box with compartments for jars and bottles. See our custom cosmetic boxes.
    •     Perfume: A rigid box with an EVA insert cut to the bottle shape. See our custom perfume boxes.
    •     Candles: A lid and base box with a snug insert that stops the jar from shifting. See our custom candle boxes.
    •     Gift sets: A larger lid and base or drawer box with compartments. These work well as rigid gift boxes for hampers and sets. See our custom gift boxes.
    •     Premium food and chocolates: A box with a paperboard divider. Confirm any food-contact needs with us before you order.
    •     Electronics and accessories: A rigid box with an EVA insert for the device and its cables.
    •     Corporate gifts: A branded box that holds several items neatly.

However, if the box will sit on a shelf or counter, look at our custom display boxes. For client gifts and launch events, our custom presentation boxes may suit you better.

    Rigid Boxes vs Folding Cartons

Both styles have a place, but the right choice depends on your product, your volume and your storage space.

    Feature Rigid boxes Folding cartons
Structure Pre-formed and firm Usually supplied flat
Presentation Premium and structured Lighter and simpler
Storage Needs more space Stores efficiently
Setup Ready to use Needs folding
Inserts Highly customisable More limited, depending on design
Best use Premium presentation High-volume, lightweight packaging

Rigid boxes take up more room because they arrive already built, which is the main trade-off. Therefore, plan your storage before you order. However, if space is a problem, a collapsable rigid box is a useful middle option. You can also browse our wider range of custom luxury packaging.

How Much Do Custom Luxury Rigid Boxes Cost?

The price of custom luxury rigid boxes depends on the full specification, so we do not list one fixed price. These factors change the cost:

    •     Box size and quantity
    •     Board thickness and box structure
    •     Wrap material and printing
    •     Finishes such as foil or embossing
    •     Insert type and closure, such as a magnet
    •     Sampling and delivery

Larger orders usually lower the cost per box, while extra finishes and magnets raise it. To keep costs down, focus on the details customers notice most. A foil logo and a fitted insert are good examples.

If you are buying rigid boxes wholesale, tell us your yearly volume. Then we can price the right quantity tiers.

How to Choose the Right Luxury Rigid Box

Follow these steps to define a bespoke rigid boxes order before you ask for a quote. Each step also helps us quote faster:

    1.   Measure the product. Take the length, width and height at the widest points, including caps, handles or wrapping.
    2.   Give us internal dimensions. The outside will be slightly larger, because the board walls and wrap add thickness.
    3.   Decide on protection. Because fragile or heavy items need a firmer insert, think about this early.
    4.   Pick the opening style. Then use the style table above to match the box to the reveal you want.
    5.   Choose the insert. Match it to the product’s shape and weight.
    6.   Select the finish. Limit it to one or two finishes that suit your brand.
    7.   Set the quantity and storage plan. Remember that assembled boxes need shelf space.
    8.   Confirm your budget. Share it early so we can suggest a build that fits.

    Our Custom Rigid Box Process

Our process for custom luxury rigid boxes keeps you informed at every stage, so nothing is made before you approve it:

    1.   Brief: You share the product size, quantity and preferred style.
    2.   Design: We prepare the artwork layout for your box.
    3.   Structural specification: We confirm the structure, board, closure and insert.
    4.   Proof: You approve the proof before we make anything.
    5.   Sample: You can request a sample to check fit, colour and feel.
    6.   Production: We cut, wrap, finish and assemble your boxes.
    7.   Quality check: We check each order before dispatch.
    8.   Delivery: We deliver the boxes to your UK address.

    Sustainability and Material Considerations

Paper-based packaging has a strong recycling record in the UK, and that is a good starting point. Provisional GOV.UK figures for 2025 put the paper and cardboard packaging recycling rate at around 80%. However, the recyclability of one rigid box depends on its build.

Coatings, laminations, foils, adhesives and inserts all affect the result. For example, a box with a paper wrap and a paperboard insert is easier to recycle. In contrast, a box with heavy plastic film and foam is harder. For recyclable rigid boxes, ask us about paper-based inserts and a lighter use of laminations. Customers can also reuse custom luxury rigid boxes as keepsake or storage boxes, which gives them a longer life.

    Offset Print

If you’re looking for large-volume packaging materials, choose offset printing! This printing method produces clean, crisp, and brilliant results. It uses plates to transfer ink to paper, so it is economical for printing in bulk. The process provides accurate color, professional quality, and an outstanding look and feel, which is ideal for cutting custom box designs.

    Digital Print

Digital printing works well for short runs and quick turn times. It doesn’t use printing plates, but instead prints directly from a computer file. It is cheap for small amounts and gives good resolution. It’s ideal for custom designs, variable data or limited edition packaging that requires speed and flexibility.

    UV Print

UV printing is a process that uses ultraviolet light to dry and cure the ink as it is printed. It easily operates on traditional and non-traditional materials. This process adds to the visual appeal of such packages, as well as their durability, and packages that require a combination of both texture and shine are perfect candidates for such execution.

    Pantone

Pantone printing is based on a standardized color matching system to guarantee an exact color match between jobs. It’s great for keeping brand colors perfect. Pantone ink is mixed using Pantone formula guides developed through spot printing for color accuracy that is reported as second to none. For luxury packaging that demands trustworthy, uniform, and sumptuous color from the start.

    C1S

C1S is an acronym for “Coated One Side,” as the paperboard is glossy on one side and uncoated on the reverse. It is wonderful in packaging where you need a printed, high-end, printable side outside, and you may want the inside to be writable or matte. Perfect for handcraft, small business and so on, ideal for packaging boxes, shelves, product tags with a polished look.

    C2S

C2S, which stands for “Coated Two Sides”, has a smooth and shiny coating on both sides of the paperboard. This is why it is ideal for stunning full-color printing, regardless of whether you are an individual or a company. Retail packaging, brochures, and cosmetics boxes that require a high-quality, high-gloss finish both inside and out use C2S.

    White Kraft

White Kraft is similar to traditional Kraft, but with a printable white surface. It features a crisp white surface that produces sharp and clear prints, making it perfect for high-quality images. This is a material commonly used to manufacture sustainable packaging, which is required to have attractive prints for a professional brand image.

    Kraft Paper

Kraft paper is natural brown and unbleached. Thai material is derived from wood pulp and is recyclable. Companies that want to attract eco-conscious consumers prefer Kraft material. It has a rough texture, which is perfect for handcrafted items for a rustic look and protective packaging.

    Coated Kraft (CCK)

This paper is brown Kraft with a smooth, white clay-coated surface that enhances the appearance of whatever you print on it. It offers a sleek look that is ideal for graphics, prints and text branding. This hybrid design is perfect for packaging that requires both sustainability and sharp visual branding.

    Color Woodfree

Color Woodfree paper has a smooth dyed surface that is free of wood fibres, for a clean finish. It is typically acid-free, and both image and color remain crisp. Ideal for presentation packaging, greeting cards, and custom box lining, where a consistent, solid color and luxurious finish are needed.

    CCNB

CCNB (Clay Coated News Backboard) is made from recycled paper and has a clay-coated white backing for printing. The back remains gray or brown, preserving its eco-friendly nature. It is a very cost-effective substrate and is used extensively in folding cartons, retail packaging, and food service boxes, where low printing costs and moderate strength are the primary concerns.

    Black Cardboard

Black cardstock is 100% black for a rich look that is both professional and elegant. It’s rigid and robust. It creates exceptional luxury product boxes and helps in premium branding. The materials’ smooth and matte surface is suitable for foil stamping and other premium finishes to add class and quality.

    Glossy Lamination

Glossy lamination is used to give a shiny surface to the custom boxes. This coating is also an excellent option to protect the material from scratches. If you want to give your boxes a professional finish and protection from scratches, then gloss lamination is an ideal option. The high quality of the lamination protects the packaging material from moisture and enhances its longevity.

    Matte Lamination

The covering is a matte lamination to give a smooth surface with a non-glossy finish, with a premium feeling. It can lower glare and has a soothing quality to particular colors. This finish is frequently used when a modern, subtle appearance is required and a sound, protective barrier is necessary to help resist smudging, light scratching and light abrasion while still offering the look of natural wood grain.

    Soft Touch Lamination

The velvet-like feel makes it soft to the touch, lamination and creates an amazing tactile sensation. The surface feels good and is easy to hold. It increases tactile interaction and reinforces a brand message with elegant visuals, yet it is still durable; resists moisture, wear, and. damage during handling.

    Anti-scratch Lamination

Anti-scratch lamination resists scratches, prevents scratches, and reduces the visibility of scratches. It holds up better with dust. This finish is also excellent for packaging applications in which the item needs to be kept in prime condition via handling and shipping, and for the retail shelf, where resistance to wear and durability are a must for on-shelf appearance and quality control.

    UV Varnishing

UV Varnishing is a high-gloss coating that adds depth and appeal to the printed image. Cured with Ultraviolet light to be hard and ready to use. This process creates a very distinctive, eye-catching appearance and provides additional protection. It also has the added benefit of hiding light scratches, fingerprints and dirt.

    Machine Varnishing

Machine varnishing provides the packaging with an even finish that is applied during production. It beautifies your surfaces and lasts up to 15 years. Its finish is consistently good on large runs, and provides for good smoothness, clarity, and slight gloss increase as well as improved resistance to minor wear and dulling over time.

    Calendering Varnishing

Varnishing calendering is the process that gives gloss and smoothness with heat and pressure. It also helps to crisp up printed detail and feels more professional. This process enhances details and gives an inviting feel to the printed product for premium quality presentation packaging.

    Water-Base finishing

Water-based coating offers a protective and environmentally safe coating that is also strong and long-lasting. It provides a matt/natural or gloss/soft gloss finish effect without being applied using hazardous materials. This option is perfect for companies that value environmental consciousness and are in need of a smooth surface that is reflective as well as protective.

    Water Base Ink

Ecologically friendly water-based ink that is non-toxic and gentle on skin. It is suitable for different kinds of printing processes, including superior carton printing quality.

    Soy Ink

Soy ink is manufactured with soybeans and is sustainable in nature. This ink has the ability to give vibrant colors and impactful designs that give your custom printed boxes an alluring look. It has a much smaller carbon footprint as compared to petroleum-based inks.

    Fluorescent Ink

Fluorescent ink gives designs that glow under UV light and create a catchy design. This ink is ideal for special effects, as well as for producing prints that pop. It is commonly used in posters, labels, signs and other marketing materials which must be read easily in a variety of conditions.

    Oil Base Ink

This kind of ink uses petroleum and is becoming popular simply because it is durable and of high-quality color. Exhibiting excellent print resolution and high-standard graphics quality. Oil-based ink gives perfect quality images, especially on porous surfaces that are otherwise hard to print. But it has a greater environmental impact in terms of its chemistry.

    Foil Stamping

In foil stamping, heat is used to transfer ink to the surface. You can get matte to gloss and holographic images on your packaging. Foil stamping outshines your packaging among the other brands and gives a high-end look to your product.

    Spot UV / Spot Gloss

In spot UV, a polished layer is applied to specific areas of packaging. This is an ideal option to build contrast and textures. If you want to accentuate your logo and other designs, then spot UV is a good option.

    Blind Embossing

A blind emboss is an image that is pressed into the paper or card without the use of ink or foil. It has a raised or recessed quality, which makes the material look elegant and refined. This velvet touch lamination is commonly used on branding or invites, adding a tactile feel to the design.

    Blind Debossing

Blind debossing is a form of blind embossing as you create a depressed image into the material, instead of an embossed one. It’s commonly used for soft branding or high-end packaging and returns a smooth and sophisticated feel to your designs.

    Stamping Embossing

Embossing stamping combines stamping and embossing to produce a raised pattern or logo. It adds an ink stamp or foil technique decoration, great for luxury business cards, invitation cards, and packaging details, both textured and detailed.

    Flocking

Flocking is the act of adhering small fibers to the surface of an article of fabric or other material. This process allows for the printed material to have a soft hand and be slightly indented into the product it is printed on, and is typically reserved for greeting cards, packaging or limited garment decoration. It creates a lush feel and lavish touch.

    Textured Embossing

Emboss textures are a raised or indented pattern in a graphic, giving an elegant look for print. The effect is typically used for branding and to add detail to designs in things like invites, business cards or packaging, but also gives a tactile and visual boost.

    Glittering

What is glittering? They love that it makes people look and feel sparkling. It is frequently used in advertising as well as in sales promotions, in packages, in decorative items, on toys, and other products to increase its liveliness and attract attention. It’s great for holiday or special occasion patterns.
